31 MBBS students of Karnataka medical college found Covid positive

Karnataka's Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) has reported as many as 31 cases of Covid-19, all are final year MBBS students.

Amid the rising cases of Covid-19 in Karnataka, the latest is, nearly 31 final year MBBS students are found to be Covid-19 positive in Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science. As per the college authorities, these students were found coronavirus positive when the authorities took random testing among 250 students staying at a hostel, who were exposed to the virus. Nearly 50 staff members were also tested positive for Covid-19. Most of the affected people are asymptomatic and few are having mild symptoms.

Dr T Gangadhargowda, Director of VIMS, said, "The COVID random test was done for all the students in the hostel. Those found infected have been shifted to the District Hospital for treatment," as reported by NDTV.

The Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to impose fresh restrictions in the state including the weekend curfew and extend the night curfew for two weeks. The state government has also decided to shut schools except for 10th and 12th standard students for two weeks.

"We have decided that barring 10th and 12th classes, schools will be shut for the rest of the classes in Bengaluru. These COVID rules will come into effect from Wednesday night," said Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka.

Karnataka health minister Dr K Sudhakar said today that people need to be cautious for the next four to six weeks and follow the guidelines and containment measures announced by the government to curb the spread of the virus.
