AIIMS administration agrees to demands of Optometry Students Association
After a meeting on August 22, the AIIMS administration agreed to the demands of the AIIMS Optometry students who were protesting after the unfortunate death of Abhishek Malviya, a first-year student of AIIMS BSc Optometry.
AIIMS administration held a meeting with the Optometry Students Association yesterday to listen to their demands after the students were protesting and demanding hostel accommodation for each student of AIIMS. Following the death of Abhishek Malviya, a first-year student of AIIMS BSc Optometry, the students were sitting on a hunger strike.
AIIMS agreed to provide accommodation to students
The official notice reads, "It was decided that 14 triple seater rooms currently occupied by BSc (Paramedical) students shall be made available to the male BSc (paramedical students). For female BSc (Paramedical) students a number equal to currently residing female students of BSc (Paramedical) courses shall be given accommodation I either in the same room or with AIIMS Masjid Moth Campus Complex.
Other waitlisted candidates shall be given option of hostels at NCI Jhajjar. Free transport for attending classes at AIIMS Delhi campus will be provided. Boarding facility shall be on payment basis. Extension shall also be given for hostel as per approval of academic session. The policy of allotment shall be same as per existing hostel rules. Timeline for implementation shall be 15 days."
Regarding the monetary compensation to the family of the deceased student, AIIMS said that since there is no precedence for monetary compensation, the proposal shall be submitted to the competent authority for consideration. Also, show cause notice issued to students shall be withdrawn.
