AIIMS Delhi Director Randeep Guleria's tenure extended

Once again AIIMS Delhi Director Randeep Guleria's tenure extended by three months or by the time new director gets appoints, whichever is earlier.

While All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi is in search of its new director, the tenure of the current director Dr Randeep Guleria has been once again extended by three months or by the time new director gets appoints, whichever is earlier.

The official notification stated that Dr Randeep Guleria was appointed as Director, AIIMS, New Delhi for a term of five years in 2017 and his tenure as Director, AIIMS New Delhi was extended for a period of three months in March 2022.

"The President, AIIMS, New Delhi is pleased to further extend his tenure as Director, AIIMS, New Delhi w.e.f. 25.06.2022 by three months or by the time new Director is appointed whichever is earlier," reads the notification.

PM-led selection committee asked for more names for the post

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) led by PM Modi has sought a wider panel of names for the post of director.

In March 2022, three doctors names were selected including Nikhil Tandon, head of the department of endocrinology; Rajesh Malhotra, chief of AIIMS Trauma Centre and the head of the department of orthopaedics; and Pramod Garg, professor in the gastroenterology department. These names were approved by the Institute Body, the top decision-making body of the AIIMS, and were sent to the ACC for final approval in March 2022.

However, now ACC has asked for instant proposal with a wider panel of names for consideration of the committee.

The four member search-cum-selection committee who is shortlisting the names is headed by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. Apart from Bhushan, the committee includes Delhi University vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh, Principal Scientific Advisor to the government K Vijay Raghavan, and Secretary of Department of Biotechnology Rajesh S Gokhale.
