AIIMS Redevelopment: 250% bigger emergency block proposed
Long waiting time in the AIIMS emergency block is expected to reduce with the AIIMS redevelopment project as a 250% bigger emergency block is proposed with 300 beds to accommodate more critical patients.
While the AIIMS Delhi is being redeveloped to turn into a world-class medical institute, the officials have said that with a 250% bigger emergency block proposed in the revamped AIIMS, the long waiting time for serious patients in the emergency block will be drastically reduced.
As per the report of Indian Express, the officials have said that the proposed facility is 250% bigger than the existing emergency block, with 120 more beds, to accommodate more critical patients.
“Officials also said that many patients who come to AIIMS in serious conditions or who are referred from other hospitals find difficulty due to bed shortage. The long waiting time will be drastically reduced,” a senior official said.
The proposal to expand the emergency block will bring relief to the many patients who wait outside the emergency ward for hours to get treated.
AIIMS Redevelopment Plan: More Details
The estimated cost of the AIIMS redevelopment project is more than INR 9000 crore, and it is expected to start this year after getting the environmental clearance.
The revamped AIIMS will have facilities like 4,000 hostel units, 50 new operation theatres, over 3,000 patient care beds, research labs, clinical trial facilities, animal facilities, and 14,000 parking spaces, including a helipad for the air ambulance.
Five different land parcels of Ansari Nagar West, Ansari Nagar East, Masjid Moth, and Trauma centre have also been amalgamated under a new category of Medical Education and Research University by the Delhi Development Authority.
