AFA has requested NMC to reconsider the public notice dated June 7, 2024, and offer an equitable solution that acknowledges the unique challenges faced by Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs).

FMG News Today

All FMGs Association (AFA) has formally written a letter to the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding the notice issued on June 7, 2024, stating that FMG certificates compensating offline clinical training with online theory classes shall not be accepted.

Moreover, the association has also urged NMC to reconsider the FMG internship period and reduce the same to 1 year. The letter further states that an additional internship duration will impose financial and emotional pressure amid delays in career progression. The association requested fair treatment in line with its Indian counterparts.

β€œThe medical profession is indeed of paramount importance, and the quality of medical education and training cannot be compromised. However, the decision to invalidate compensatory certificates for online classes and the requirement for FMGs to undergo an extended Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) of two to three years is profoundly disconcerting.” The official notification stated.

Education Online Was Not a Choice But Necessity

The Association further added that they have faced unprecedented challenges due to the global pandemic and completing certain aspects in online mode was a necessity and not a choice. The implementation of the aforesaid stipulation would create an unnecessary burden on FMGs who have already been through a tumultuous period.

β€œ I urge the NMC to reconsider this notice and provide a more equitable solution that acknowledges the unique challenges faced by FMGS. A collaborative approach to address these concerns would be greatly appreciated.” The notification further added.

What is the Issue?

On June 10, 2024, over 200 FMGs gathered outside the NMC India office in New Delhi seeking revocation of the NMC notice denying FMG certificates compensating offline clinical training with online theory classes.

Meanwhile, FORDA came in support of Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) and requested NMC to have a meeting with the students to resolve their concerns more amicably.
