Assam govt seeks introduction of Sanskrit as compulsory criterion for BAMS admissions
Assam Cabinet took several significant decisions this week and also planned to propose to the union government for making Sanskrit compulsory for BAMS admissions.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state Cabinet took several important decisions including the plan for a proposal to make Sanskrit compulsory for BAMS admissions, reforms in the recruitment of teachers and principals, constituting governing bodies in engineering colleges and polytechnics and more.
The state government is all set to propose the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India and the National Council for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) to introduce Sanskrit as compulsory criteria for admission into Ayurvedic Course (BAMS).
Assam government wants that the candidate must have passed 10th standard with Sanskrit as a subject and also he/she must clear the Sanskrit test of 10th standard in the entrance examination conducted by the University/Board/Registered Society/Association.
The government also decided that governing bodies to be constituted in seven government engineering colleges and 26 polytechnics. These bodies will have 11 members including President, secretary, and others.
"Today, in our weekly Cabinet, we took several important decisions - INR 2,930 cr for 5 mega industrial parks, new schedule of offences included to check corruption, a proposal to make Sanskrit compulsory for BAMS admissions, uniformity as per the National Medical Commission that will benefit faculty in medical colleges, reforms in the recruitment of teachers and principals, MoU to set up EV charging stations in the State, constituting governing bodies in engineering colleges and polytechnics, reforms in the recruitment of teachers and principals, and a new scheme for permanent State government employees to purchase vehicles," reads a tweet by Assam CM.
