Bihar Health Science University gets its first Vice-Chancellor
The newly established Bihar Swasthya Vigyan Vishwavidyalay or Bihar Health Science University (BHSU) gets its first Vice Chancellor Dr Surendra Nath Sinha whose priority would be to set up well-equipped research labs in all government and private medical colleges.
Dr Surendra Nath Sinha has become the first Vice Chancellor of the newly established Bihar Swasthya Vigyan Vishwavidyalay or Bihar Health Science University (BHSU) where one-third of total seats in various courses will be reserved for girl students.
He said his first priority as VC is to set up well-equipped research labs in all government and private medical colleges for the promotion of research works in medical branches.
"Learning and research are two important parts of any institution of higher education. Despite good infrastructure and qualified faculty in medical colleges, the field of medical research still required encouragement. We have seen how the recent Covid-19 pandemic necessitated new medicine, tools and technologies for facing the sudden challenges to human health. The research labs would also give a distinct identity to this state university dedicated to health science," said Dr Sinha, as reported by TOI.
Dr Surendra is the former principal of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and Darbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and an expert in biochemistry.
Many colleges to come under BHSU
Dr Sinha said that all medical, dental, pharmacy, and paramedical institutions including nursing ones would come under this new university.
Apart from the labs, another priority is the inclusion of Yoga in the medical and paramedical academic curriculum as suggested by the National Medical Commission.
