By 2023, all districts in Telangana will have GMCs: T Harish Rao
While presenting the Telangana budget 2022-23, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said that the state will have government medical colleges in each district by 2023.
Finance Minister T. Harish Rao has said while presenting the Telangana budget 2022-23 that the state has set a goal to set up at least one medical college in each district by 2023 with a cost of INR 1,000 crores.
He said, "In 2022, eight new medical colleges would be launched in Asifabad, Bhupalpally, Vikarabad, Sircilla, Janagaon, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, and Khammam. By 2023, new medical colleges would be established in the other eight districts namely – Medak, Medchal, Ranga Reddy, Mulugu, Warangal, Narayanpet, Gadwal, and Yadadri. Over and above these, eight colleges have already been sanctioned at Mancherial, Ramagundam, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahbubabad, Kothagudem, and Sangreddy and would start functioning next year," as reported by eHealth.
Super speciality hospitals in Telangana
The state government has also announced the establishment of Telangana Institutions of Medical Sciences (TIMS) on four sides of the city.
“These hospitals will be established at Gachibowli, LB Nagar, Alwal, and Erragadda. Each of these super-speciality hospitals will have 1000 beds and the needy people need not look at corporate hospitals for their healthcare needs. Likewise, there is an addition of 2,000 beds that are being prepared at NIMS. With this, the total number of beds in NIMS would rise to 3,489,” he added.
He also said that the KCR Nutrition Kits endeavour to be executed in nine districts - Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Bhadrachalam Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kamareddy, Vikarabad, Mulugu, Jogulamba Gadwal, and Nagarkurnool to tackle the issue of anaemia among lactating mothers.
