China to allow Indian medical students; to follow COVID-19 protocols
Indian Embassy has asked students to share their complete details by filling out a Google Form by 08 May 2022.
Bringing a ray of hope for thousands of Indian students enrolled at Chinese Universities who were waiting to return to China to complete their education, the Indian Embassy has asked them to share their details, which will be shared with the Chinese side to facilitate their return.
Following the meeting of the External Affairs Minister of India, Dr S. Jaishankar with the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi on 25 March 2022, the Chinese side has expressed its willingness to consider facilitating the return of Indian students to China on a need-assessed basis.
In order to facilitate this, the Indian Embassy intends to prepare a list of such students which will be shared with the Chinese side for their consideration. Therefore, Indian students are requested to provide the necessary information by filling up the Google Form shared by the Embassy.
Students will have to share their complete details by 08 May 2022. Once the collated information is shared with the Chinese side, they would consult relevant Chinese departments to verify the list and indicate whether the identified students can travel to China to complete the course.
This coordination process would be carried out in a time-bound manner. The Chinese side has also conveyed that eligible students should unconditionally abide by the Covid-19 prevention measures, and agree to bear all expenses related to Covid-19 prevention measures by themselves.
It's been two years since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, because of which more than 22,000 Indian students, the majority of them pursuing medical education at Chinese universities returned to India and are yet to go back.
Even though students from countries like Pakistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Solomon Islands have been permitted to return to their universities in China recently, it did not allow Indian students till now. The Indian students are attending online classes.
Yesterday, India expressed concern over thousands of Indian students being unable to resume their studies in China.
