Covid 19 cases rise to 182 in Karnataka medical college

The number of Covid-19 cases in SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad has gone up to 182 from 66 cases reported yesterday.

After 66 fully vaccinated medical students were found Covid positive on Thursday, more tests are being conducted in SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad. The medical college has become the cluster of Covid-19 and today the number of cases has increased from 66 to 182.

The Covid 19 outbreak reportedly came after a fresher party inside the campus. Most of the infected people are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. All the infected persons have been quarantined inside the campus and they all are showing mild and no symptoms. As a precautionary measure, two hostels have been sealed.

This came at a time when a new Covid variant in South Africa, Honk Kong and Botswana has put India on alert. Health commissioner D Randeep has confirmed that a few samples will be sent for genome sequencing to check if there is a new variant.

After the coronavirus outbreak was reported, the health officials had already instructed the college authorities to conduct tests for all staff and faculty members and a health officials team have been deployed at the college campus.

Dharwad was reportedly reporting zero positive cases for a few days and on Thursday it reported 14% of the total new cases across the state.

SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad offers MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery), MD (Doctor of Medicine), BSc (Bachelor of Science), PG Diploma, MS (Master in surgery) and MSc (Master of Science) courses.
