To help in the fight against the COVID-19, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati has developed two 3D products that can be very fruitful.

To help in the fight against the COVID-19, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati has developed two 3D products that can be very fruitful. Researchers at NIPER have designed a 3D-printed antimicrobial face-shield and a 3D-printed hands-free object. Talking about the institute, it is a premier institute of national importance. According to U.S.N Murthy, Director of NIPER Guwahati, NIPER-G endeavoured to help the country in fighting coronavirus by means of rapid authorised prototype/ product development and deployment. The institute is devoted to yield useful contributions cum solutions. The 3D-printed hands-free object could be utilised to help open or close windows, drawers (both vertical and horizontal), doors, and refrigerator handle, or press elevator buttons, and laptop/desktop keyboards, including turning the switch buttons on/off.  

In the present scenario of COVID-19 pandemic, this aspect may play a vital role in spreading infection from one person to another by means of bare hand contacts or infected surface source. To contain the spread of novel coronavirus, the 3D-printed antimicrobial face-shield could be used. It was developed after a detailed study to comprehend how viruses spread through ophthalmic, olfactory, oral and other body cavities. According to the institute, it is also low cost, easy to wear, has good chemical stability, non-fragile and is easy to clean with the existing sanitizers or any alcoholic disinfectant.

So far, the number of infected persons has reached past the tally of 1.5 million across the globe. More than one lakh people have lost their lives so far across the globe. In India, the number of infected people has reached close to the tally of ten thousand.
