Delhi Medical Association urges arrests of culprits in SDNH doctors assault case
Despite police presence at the scene and a written complaint by the Doctor on Duty, no institutional FIR has been lodged yet, said FORDA India.
Delhi Medical Association has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Police to request to lodge an institutional FIR in the case of doctor assault at Swami Dayanand Hospital and book the culprits.
The Resident Doctors of Swami Dayanand Hospital have been on strike since the incident occurred to demand action against the culprits.
DMA statement says that they are deeply concerned about the assault on duty doctors in Swami Dayanand Hospital Dilshad Garden on October 8, 2023, by a patient's attendant in the medicine ward.
"The resident doctors of Swami Dayanand Hospital are demanding for intuitional FIR under The Delhi Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2008," said the DMA letter.
The doctor was assaulted after a patient died while in treatment.
The doctor treating him said, "On October 10, 2023, around 10 p.m., the patient suddenly developed breathlessness following oral bleed. After this, the patient immediately collapsed by the time, the management was being carried out and CPR was given. ICU team also reached, but the patient died."
The doctor on duty sustained a nasal bleed and other injuries. He said that the behaviour of relatives caused physical and mental damage and disrespect to him. He demanded strict action against the responsible persons for this incident.
Various doctor's associations have been demanding since long for the protection of doctors on duty from such physical assaults by relatives. Multiple similar incidents have been reported in near times.
