Doctor has alleged she was asked to apologize to Health Secy’s wife who used ‘unpleasant’ words

A professor of Doon Medical College, Dehradun has resigned from her post for allegedly being forced to apologize to Uttarakhand Health Secretary's wife. The faculty member was also transferred to Almora from Dehradun yesterday.

An associate professor of Government Doon Medical College, Dehradun has resigned from her post and has demanded action against Health Secretary Pankaj Pandey over her harassment.

The professor has alleged that while she was asked to attend to Pandey’s wife during her OPD hours when she went to see his wife at his residence, he hurled abuses at her, as she left her Blood Pressure checking machine in her car.

She has alleged that when she objected to this behaviour Health Secretary’s wife misbehaved with her. On her return to the office, she was asked to apologise to Pandey’s wife to which the doctor objected.

She also alleged that as result she was transferred from Dehradun to Soban Singh Jeena Government institute of Medical science & Research Almora.

In her letter sent to Secretary, Health and Medical Sciences Department, Uttarakhand Government, the faculty has stated: “I am currently wording as Associate Professor in Government Doon Medical College, Dehradun and was asked to attend ailing wife of Mr Pankat Pandey, lAS and Secretary Health, Government of Uttarakhand at her residence.

“I reached his residence with two of my hospital staff, leaving my running OPD and kept waiting for a number of patients in the hospital. I visited her residence and examined her duly and as the BP machine was left in the car arrival of the BP instrument was delayed. The wife of Mr Pandey resorted to the usage of unpleasant words demeaning to my profession and conduct. To which I objected, felt bad and came back,” the letter reads.

It further reads: “Upon ms return. I was asked to tender an apology to Mr Pandey's wife. As I am not at fault I refused to tender an apology.” She has resigned from her post over this alleged harassment and has demanded action against Pandey for his behaviour and misuse of power.
