GMCs must provide 15% MBBS seats, 50% MD/MS for AIQ: NMC
NMC has released guidelines for government medical colleges to contribute 15% of MBBS seats and 50% of MD/MS for All India Quota (AIQ) to MCC of DGHS.
As per the latest notification by the National Medical Commission (NMC), all government medical colleges across India are asked to contribute 15% of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats and 50% of Post Graduate Broad Specialities courses MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) for All India Quota (AIQ) to Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET UG) and NEET PG counselling as per the direction of the Supreme Court.
NEET UG and NEET PG were conducted on September 12 and September 11 respectively and even after the results were declared, MCC is yet to announce the counselling schedules. The NEET PG Counselling is on hold due to the Supreme Court's pending order on OBC and EWS reservation in AIQ. The court hearing was deferred multiple times and the top court is likely to hear the pleas challenging reservations on November 25.
Once the Counselling process for NEET and NEET PG starts for AIQ, the counselling for the state quota seats will also start by respective state medical counselling committees.
Doctors all across the country are demanding to expedite the NEET PG counselling but the Centre has assured the top court that it will start the process only after Supreme Court's direction. Meanwhile, states like Andhra Pradesh and Assam have released their NEET merit list 2021 at ntruhs.ap.nic.in and dme.assam.gov.in respectively.
