J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said he would request the Centre to postpone UT's participation in AIQ to next year.

After the MBBS students in Jammu & Kashmir protested against UT (Union Territory) government's decision to pool J&K MBBS seats in the All India Quota (AIQ), the J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has assured the students that he would request the Centre to defer the UT's participation in AIQ by a year.

He said this after a delegation of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Postgraduate) (NEET PG) aspirants awaiting NEET Counselling for MD (Doctor of Medicine) /MS (Master of Surgery) courses called him at Raj Bhavan. The delegation expressed their concern regarding the UT's participation in AIQ from this year and also sought more time for the preparation.

“The J&K UT has 543 postgraduate seats for MD/ MS. While participating in the all-India quota, it shall be contributing 271 seats, whereas the students of J&K shall become eligible for 5000 seats in MD and MS under the all-India quota. The J&K students will be in an advantageous position with access to a large number of seats,” said Sinha as reported by Devdiscourse.

“Currently, we have 1,000 seats. By participating in the all-India quota, the UT will contribute only 150 seats, whereas the J&K students shall become eligible for 4,568 seats in MBBS under the all-India quota. The J&K students will benefit more by participating in the all-India quota for NEET undergraduates and postgraduate courses,” Lt Governor added.
