Kozhikode GMCH functioning hit due to retirements and transfers of doctors
Government Medical College and Hospital, Kozhikode, is facing difficulty in functioning due to the retirement and transfers of doctors.
The functioning of one of the major public health colleges in the Malabar region, the Government Medical College and Hospital, Kozhikode has been badly affected due to the transfers and retirements of doctors.
The medical college has no full-time principal since April 30 and nearly 17 senior doctors have retired from service in less than two months.
The situation got worsened due to the transfer of existing doctors to other medical colleges in Pathanamthitta, Wayanad, Kasaragod, and Idukki. These doctors were promoted to new posts, however, sources say that the Kozhikode GMC could have retained these doctors as the GMC has these posts, as reported by The Hindu.
The retired doctors were reportedly experts in their field of academics and in providing medical treatments, and now both students and patients are facing the consequences as both academic work and treatment are hit by these transfers and retirements.
