MBBS 2021 to start from February 14, 2022, says NMC

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced that MBBS courses for the year 2021 will start from February 14, 2022. 

The MBBS and medical postgraduate courses 2021 have met an unprecedented delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the year 2021. National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced today that it has decided to commence the MBBS 2021 session from February 14, 2022.

NMC's official notification reads, "There has been a delay in the starting of MBBS courses on account of Covid pandemic in the year 2021. Therefore, National Medical Commission has decided that the academic session for the MBBS courses for the year 2021 shall commence from 14th February 2022. The academic curriculum for the undergraduate courses shall be completed within the stipulated time as prescribed in the aforementioned regulations."

MBBS 2021 Academic Curriculum Details

• The foundation course of dedicated one month will be included in the first professional of eleven months that will be covered after usual teaching hours or on holidays/weekends.
• The first professional has been reduced to eleven months instead of thirteen months.
• The vacations have also been reduced during first, second and third professionals by one month. Therefore, each subsequent professional phase of training has been reduced by one month only. 
• The final professional examinations for MBBS 2021 will take place in June 2026.
• NMC has tried not to curtail the practical and clinical postings. The internship will remain for one year only.
• NMC has stated even though it appears that the course duration is shortened, training hours and actual teaching have been preserved through absorption of buffer time available during the course such as dedicated one-month foundation courses and vacations. 

NMC has also attached the tentative academic curriculum for the MBBS batch starting in February 2022 as Annexure-A.
