Calls for CBI Probe into Alleged NEET UG 2024 Paper Leak and Unprecedented Scores

NEET UG 2024 Results were announced on June 4

In light of recent controversies surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024, major medical student associations have raised serious concerns and called for immediate action.

Dr. Syed Faizan Ahmad, National Vice President of the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA), has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged paper leak and other irregularities in the NEET exam. "We want proper CBI enquiry for the NEET exam paper leak," said Dr. Ahmad.

AIMSA's Letter to NTA

The AIMSA sent a detailed letter to the Chairman of the National Testing Agency (NTA), highlighting several anomalies observed in the NEET 2024 results:

Paper Leak Allegations: Reports of the NEET paper being leaked have surfaced, yet no concrete action has been taken.

Unusual Perfect Scores: An unprecedented 67 students scored 720/720, which raises suspicion.

Improbable High Scores: Scores of 718 and 719 were recorded, which are technically unlikely.

Grace Marks Transparency: The provision for grace marks due to time wastage was not disclosed beforehand, potentially disadvantaging many students.

Lack of Addressal by NTA: The NTA has not adequately addressed these concerns, causing a loss of trust among stakeholders.

AIMSA emphasized the need for a fair investigation to maintain the integrity of the examination process, stating that the future careers of thousands of students are at stake.

United Doctors Front Association's Appeal

The United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) also issued a strong statement supporting NEET aspirants and demanding comprehensive investigations into the alleged irregularities. The UDFA has sent letters to multiple high-ranking officials, including the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, the Chairman of the National Medical Commission, and the Director of the CBI. Their demands include:

Independent Investigation: A thorough and unbiased investigation by a credible authority like the CBI.

Suspension of Counseling: All counseling and admissions should be suspended until the investigation is completed.

Strict Penalties for Cheating: Severe penalties for students found guilty of dishonest practices.

Revoke NTA's Role: Reevaluation of the NTA's authority to oversee NEET due to its management failures.

Key Concerns Highlighted

Paper Leak and Malfeasance

Multiple reports have suggested that the NEET UG 2024 question paper was compromised at various locations, but the NTA has not acknowledged these issues or taken appropriate action.

Unprecedented Scores

The perfect scores achieved by 67 students are statistically unusual and have raised doubts about the exam's fairness and integrity. At one center in Haryana, eight students scored above 718 marks, with six achieving a perfect score, prompting calls for a detailed investigation.

Grace Marks and Transparency

The awarding of grace marks due to disruptions during the exam was not transparently communicated, leading to questions about fairness. The NTA's explanations regarding these scores have been deemed insufficient.

Breach of Right to Equality

Discrepancies between OMR sheets and final scores, along with the opaque allocation of compensatory marks, have resulted in claims of a breach of the right to equality.

Conclusion

The AIMSA and UDFA have stressed that immediate, transparent, and thorough investigations are crucial to restoring trust in the NEET examination process. They argue that the credibility of the exam and the future of thousands of aspiring medical professionals are at risk, and only decisive action can ensure fairness and justice.

The medical community and concerned authorities now await the response of the NTA and other relevant bodies to these serious allegations and demands for accountability.
