Based on the agreement signed between National Medical Commission and Quality Council of India (QCI) for assessing ratings of the medical institutions in July, from the 2024-25 academic session, both government and private medical colleges in the country will be rated based on the quality of education they provide.
Dr Yogendra Malik, member of the NMC's Ethics and Medical Registration Board said that currently, only government medical colleges are bound to participate in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
“QCI provides a mechanism for independent third-party assessment of products, services and it aims to promote quality through national accreditation of testing, inspection and certification bodies which are internationally recognized," he said, as reported by NDTV.
"This is the first time that medical colleges will be assessed and ranked based on several parameters. The initiative will bring in accountability, and adherence to high standards and help students choosing the right medical college," he added.
QCI is an autonomous body created through a cabinet decision of government and registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The alliance between Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) and QCI will focus on the assessment and rating of medical colleges based on predetermined criteria and parameters.
Under the agreement, QCI will maintain a comprehensive framework for assessment and rating of medical colleges and and MARB will actively participate in development of the assessment and rating framework by providing its expertise, insights and guidance to QCI.
