The medical students in Haryana have been protesting for more than twenty days now against the state government’s bond policy introduced in November 2020. As per the bond policy, the students need to pay INR 40 lakh bond amount which the government is saying needs to be paid only if the students after completing the course will not fulfil the bond criteria of serving the state for 7 years.
As per the Hindustan Times report, nearly 20 representatives of MBBS students from four government medical colleges of Haryana met the director of medical education and research (DMER) in Panchkula yesterday to seek clarification on the bond policy.
“We have sought clarifications on the new bond policy. He gave us a patient hearing but he could not answer our questions. We are not satisfied with the reply. The policy is vague and even the government is not clear regarding it,” said Pankaj Bithhu, who was one of the representatives who met the DMER.
PGIMS Rohtak's RDA statement reads, "A unanimous decision has been taken that all residents shall observe pen-down in OPD as a mark of protest on November 21, 2022, from 10 am to 12 pm. This is in protest of the current situation prevailing in the institute where the students yet to receive any concrete solution from the government directly."
The medicos, who have been protesting since November 1, stayed away from the out-patient department (OPD) for two hours from 10 am to 12 noon yesterday.
