Medical UG, PG aspirants anxiously waiting for SC decision on med quota
Supreme Court will hear a bunch of pleas today challenging the government decision of OBC and EWS reservations in AIQ.
After much demand, the Central government had approved the 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the All India Quota (AIQ) on July 29. Now, there are a bunch of pleas in the Supreme Court challenging the government's decision on reservations in AIQ which the top court will be hearing today, on November 16.
Medical undergraduate and postgraduate aspirants are waiting for Supreme Court's decision on this matter. The admissions to various medical courses are already delayed due to the pandemic.
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Postgraduate) NEET-PG 2021 counselling schedule is expected to be released after the court's order on this matter. The central government had assured the top court that the NEET PG counselling will not start until the court gives an order on the reservations.
Justice Chandrachud had responded to this assurance by saying, "We will take your word for it then, so long as the students are not counselled. We will take your word that counselling is not starting till we decide one way or the other. Students will be in a serious problem otherwise..."
However, undergraduate admissions in Maharashtra can start once the all-India admission rounds begin. The UG admission in Maharashtra runs parallel to the all-India round admissions and the first round of admissions will start in the state after the all-India round of admission will conclude.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Health Services is yet to provide a state rank list to Maharashtra's Directorate of Medical Education and Research.
