Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated the Shri Jagannath Medical College & Hospital in Puri, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya joined the event virtually.

Shri Jagannath Medical College & Hospital in Puri has been jointly established by the State and Union government. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated the medical college while Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya joined the event virtually. 

“This is a historic day for Puri district. I hope that, with the efforts of the teachers and students, this institution will get a great name in serving the people of Puri. It is heartening to know that the students from the poorest sections have got into the medical college. Especially, the students from the government schools have got the admissions due to the 15% reservation policy of the State government,” said Naveen Patnaik, as reported by Kalinga TV.

BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra's tweet reads, "There’s a protocol to invite Union Ministers for such inaugurations of Centrally Sponsored Schemes. Minister’s consent, convenience & time is sought well in advance. Despite this not being followed Sh @mansukhmandviya ji consented in consonance with the Spirit of “Sabka Sath ..”

Mansukh Mandaviya's tweet says, "Attended the inauguration of Shri Jagannath Medical College & Hospital in Puri by CM @Naveen_Odisha Ji. It will strengthen medical education in Odisha & open new opportunities in the healthcare sector. Glad to interact with the students who are future doctors."

Student intake capacity is 100 MBBS seats 

Shri Jagannath Medical College & Hospital has the capacity for admitting 100 MBBS students annually. The admission process of the first batch has been completed. The hostel, lab, canteen and classrooms and the administrative block have been set for the new batch.
