NEET 2017 Official Dates Announced; Check Details!

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-2017) is to be conducted in 80 cities this year, for admissions to various medical courses. CBSE has announced the official dates for the examination to be held on May 7, 2017, the applications for which begun from January, 2017 and will continue till March, 2017. This year NEET will be held in 80 cities in the respective regional languages apart from English, which include – Assamese, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu.

NEET-UG is a medical entrance test which is conducted in lieu of the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT), by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for medical/dental (MBBS/BDS) aspirants in India. The test will be conducted as per the guidelines of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and the Dentists Act, 1948 (both amended in the year 2016).

Joint Secretary, Medical Education, AK Singhal had said then, "The collaborative efforts of Central Health Ministry with the state health ministries have led to this decision so as to bring parity for the students who have taken the state board exams."

This year all the seats offered by the colleges for their MBBS and BDS courses will be filled through NEET-UG – 2017. Admission for the institutions established under the Act of Parliament which included AIIMS and JIPMER-Puducherry are exempted from NEET as they conduct their own entrance examination.

Admissions will be accepted in all-India quota seats, state government quota seats, state/management/NRI quota seats in private medical/dental colleges or any private/ deemed university and central pool quota seats. Indian citizens, non-resident Indians, overseas citizens of India, persons of Indian origin and foreign nationals are all eligible to appear for NEET-UG 2017 and will also be eligible for 15% all-India quota seats.

As per the previous announcements, few changes have been made in the NEET eligibility criteria which states that the number of attempts to appear for the examination has been capped to 3 and 5 YO relaxation has been given in their limit, for the reserved candidates. It is mandatory for candidates from all the states except Jammu & Kashmir and Meghalaya, to include a copy of their Aadhaar Card in the document enclosure and the Unique Identification Number mentioned on your Adhaar card is needed at the time of application process.

This year NEET will be held at 1,500 test centers across the country and more than 10 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the test. Last year, 8,02,594 candidates registered for both NEET I & NEET II. After successfully conducting the medical entrance test, an All-India Rank (AIR) list will be prepared and announced by the CBSE, as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India.
