NEET 2020 reservation in Tamil Nadu

A cabinet led by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, K Palaniswami, has approved a 7.5 per cent quota within the existing quota for undergraduate medical course. The quota will be for the students who have passed Class 12 from the government schools located in the state. The ‘quota within quota’ will cover government seats in the private medical colleges as well. This quota is expected to be applicable horizontally across various existing reservations, such as that for reserved category candidates.

Admission to the undergraduate medical courses offered by the colleges located in Tamil Nadu state will be on the basis of NEET 2020 scores. The state will conduct Tamil Nadu NEET counselling for admission to the 85 per cent state quota seats.

The state had earlier filed for an exemption from NEET 2020 owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, this was met with a massive backlash from the opposition parties claiming that this would be unfair to the students who have spent years preparing for NEET 2020.
