NEET 2023 Live updates: Online Registration Date, Eligibility, Exam Fees, Documents Required, Official Website

NEET 2023 will be conducted on Sunday, May 7, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM (Indian Standard Time). The exam timing and centre will be mentioned on the NEET 2023 admit card which will be released prior to the exam date.

The types or categories of seats offered through the NEET UG exam are as follows:

• All India Quota (AIQ) seats
• State Government Quota seats
• Central/Deemed Universities
• NRI Quota seats

The NEET application form has to be filled in online mode only. However, there is an exception for the applicants residing in the Kashmir valley or Leh. The NEET 2023 application fee has to be paid using a credit card/ debit card, net banking, Paytm or UPI.

There is no additional fee amount involved for NEET 2023 application correction unless there is a change in category. If the category fee is higher than that of the previously selected category, then candidates will have to pay the additional fee amount in order to be eligible for appearing in the exam.

The following details can be edited in the NEET application correction window:

• Personal details such as name, date and place of birth, parents’ name, ID card details

• Communication details such as present and permanent address

• Academic details such as board name, name of school/college/institution/university, year of passing, percentage of marks obtained

• Medium of question paper

• Exam city preference

• Parents’/guardians’ profession and annual family income

• Documents uploaded such as photograph, signature and documents can be updated in requisite format if not done originally

NTA will provide an application correction window after the NEET 2023 application process is over. Only those candidates who have submitted the form by paying the requisite application fee will be able to edit or make changes to the application form. While candidates will be able to make changes in maximum fields, there are certain uneditable fields as well, which include email address, mobile number and nationality. 

NTA is unlikely to postpone the exam date owing to the following factors:

• Normalising the academic schedule
• Avoiding additional and unnecessary administrative and logistics cost
• Avoiding inconvenience to well-prepared students

NTA may decide to postpone NEET 2023 based on the following factors:

• Multiple requests from students
• Court order or intervention from higher authorities
• External factors such as pandemic or natural calamity
• Clash with other entrance exams or Board exam

NEET exam date was postponed in the past two years on account of COVID-19 pandemic. The table below brings the original and postponed dates of NEET.

However, in 2022, NEET was conducted on July 17, the originally announced date.

There is a possibility that NTA might release the notification and NEET 2023 application form on the same date. On the other hand, there are also instances from past years, when NTA announced the notification ahead of the application process.

NEET UG is the gateway to admission to multiple medical and paramedical courses:

Candidates will have to upload images of their passport-size photograph, signature, and thumb impression in JPG or JPEG formats. The documents will have to be uploaded in PDF format.

NTA had increased the NEET application fee last year across categories. Hence, the possibility of increasing the application fee cannot be ruled out completely. 

The NEET 2023 application mode will be completely online. Candidates will have to visit the official website of NEET 2023, neet.nta.nic.in to complete the application process. The first step is to register and generate the login credentials, followed by the application process. 

It is expected that around 18 lakh candidates will be applying for NEET 2023. The number is likely to increase from that of last year.

It is expected that the NEET 2023 application correction window will be active for one month, as per the previous years' trends. However, the deadline is likely to get extended to give chance to maximum number of applicants. 

NTA is expected to release the NEET 2023 notification anytime soon. The official notification and information bulletin may be declared by NTA by next week.

As per last year’s NEET analysis, the difficulty level of the exam was moderate to tough. The questions were on the expected lines. As far as the subject-wise difficulty level is concerned, Physics was the toughest, followed by Chemistry and Biology. The questions were equally distributed from the Class 11 and Class 12 syllabi of CBSE.

Candidates will have to follow the steps given below to complete the NEET 2023 application process:

• Visit the NEET 2023 official website - www.neet.nta.nic.in

• Click on the tab indicating the application form

• Read all the instructions and register with personal details such as name, contact details, password, etc. to generate the application number and password

• After the credentials are generated, log in and fill the application form with personal and educational details, exam medium and exam city preference and photograph and signature upload

• Pay the application fee in online mode through credit/debit card, net banking, Paytm and UPI

After completing the NEET 2023 application process, candidates will have to preserve the following documents or information till the admission process is completed.

• Printout of the confirmation page

• Receipt for the payment of application fees

• Six to eight copies of the uploaded photograph

NTA has not announced whether there would be a change in the NEET 2023 syllabus or pattern yet. The chances of the exam pattern and syllabus change are less. However, it can be completely ruled out. Clarity on this will be received after the declaration of the NEET 2023 notification and information bulletin.

Although there is no upper age limit for NEET 2023, there is a lower age limit of 16 years as on December 31, 2023. Even if a candidate is 15 years old during the NEET 2023 application duration, he or she will be eligible to apply as he or she would turn 16 by the end of the year.

NTA and the MHRD have been mulling the possibility of conducting NEET twice a year for the past couple of years. However, as per an RTI response dated January 26, NTA has confirmed that now onwards, NEET will be conducted once a year.

The chances of NTA postponing NEET UG 2023 are bleak as NTA has not responded to any of the student requests. Moreover, since the medical admission timeline was delayed in the past two years, NTA is endeavouring to normalise the admission cycle. Hence, it is likely that NEET 2023 will be conducted on May 7.

Soon after the declaration of the NEET 2023 exam date, students started demanding the postponement of the exam date. The primary reasons for this demand include less than six months duration for the exam and ongoing counselling process. The NEET UG counselling 2022 process concluded in January 2023.

The NEET 2023 syllabus is expected to be the same as that of the previous years. NEET syllabus consists of chapters and topics from Physics, Chemistry and Biology of Class 11 and Class 12. Since the syllabus of NEET UG is same as that of the Class 12 Board exam, it is easy for students to balance the preparation.

Along with the result, NTA declares the NEET cutoff marks or qualifying marks. For General or Open category candidates, the qualifying percentile in NEET is 50. The percentile or the marks for each category varies. The below table brings the NEET 2022 cutoff or last year’s NEET qualifying marks for each category.

The total mark for the NEET UG exam is 720. Each subject carries 180 marks.

The number of registered candidates has increased over the years along with the number of test-takers. Last year or NEET 2022 had the highest number of applicants and the number of test-takers. The table below brings the total number of applicants vis-a-vis the number of test takers.

The NEET exam is conducted once a year. It is expected that NEET 2023 will also be conducted once. However, students and other stakeholders are demanding that NEET be held twice a year. The Ministry of HRD and NTA are mulling the idea of conducting NEET twice, but it is unlikely that the exam will be held twice this year itself.

The NEET 2023 eligibility criteria is state that candidates should have passed or appeared for Class 12 Board exam in Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as core subjects. The minimum age of candidates should be 17 years as on December 31, 2023. There is no upper age limit.

The following documents are required for the NEET 2023 application process.

The NEET 2023 marking is expected to remain the same as the last year. Each correct answer fetches four marks and there is a negative marking of one mark for each wrong answer. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted or extra-answered questions. The table below brings the detailed marking scheme of the NEET UG 2023 exam.

The NEET 2023 exam will carry 200 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The Biology section is further divided into Botany and Zoology. Out of the 200 questions, candidates will have to answer 180 questions, and any attempt beyond it would not be considered. Each subject is divided into two sections carrying 35 and 15 questions. In Section B, candidates will have to attempt 10 out of 15 questions. The detailed structure is given below.

The NEET 2023 exam is conducted in a paper-pencil-based mode or offline mode. Candidates will be given a hard copy of the NEET question paper and an OMR sheet answer booklet. They will have to solve the questions in the answer booklet or the rough sheet provided and mark the correct answer options on the OMR sheet with a blue or black ball pen.

NEET information brochure refers to a comprehensive and descriptive document or a handbook regarding the exam. The NEET 2023 information brochure will be released along with the application form tentatively in the first week of March. The NEET information brochure is a PDF document of around 140 pages, which includes detailed information such as important dates, eligibility criteria, application process and fee, exam pattern, syllabus, exam cities, among others.

NEET 2023 will be conducted in 13 languages including English and Hindi. These are regional languages that are spoken across India. The list of 13 languages in which NEET 2023 will be conducted are as follows:

Last year, NEET was conducted in 14 international cities across continents. The list of the cities is given below:

It is expected that the number of NEET 2023 exam centres will be around 5,000 and the exam cities will be around 500. Last year, the total number of NEET exam centres was 3,570, which were located in 497 cities, including 14 cities outside India. 

The NEET 2023 application fee is expected to remain the same as that of last year. The fee amount varies according to candidate category and the exam city. Candidates who would opt for a NEET 2023 exam centre abroad will have to pay a higher fee as compared to those who would be appearing in a centre located in India. The URL for the official website of NEET is neet.nta.nic.in. The information or notices regarding NEET 2023 will also be hosted on the NTA website, the address for which is nta.ac.in.

The NEET 2023 notification will consist of key information such as exam date and time, application window and fees, eligibility criteria, exam cities, exam pattern, etc. Along with the notification, the detailed information bulletin will also be released by NTA.

The NEET 2023 application process is likely to commence in the first week of March. The application form of NEET will be released online and the procedure to fill and submit the form is also completely online.

NEET UG 2023 exam date is scheduled to be conducted on May 7. NTA announced the exam date on December 15, along with the JEE Main, CUET and ICAR AIEEA exam dates. However, no other dates have been announced yet.

NEET 2023 notification is expected to be released by NTA this week, tentatively by February 10.
