A NEET aspirant reportedly committed suicide in Hyderabad by jumping off the fourth floor of her coaching academy. The father has alleged that she was traumatized by casteist slurs by roommates and he is suspecting that this could be a trigger for taking the extreme step.
An 18-year-old NEET aspirant in Hyderabad has died reportedly by committing suicide. She jumped off the fourth floor of her coaching academy and her father has alleged that she was traumatized due to casteist slurs by roommates.
"Her father in a complaint to police alleged that his daughter's roommates used to harass her mentally by mentioning her caste name as she belongs to SC," said police, as reported by Deccan Herald.
The father informed the police that when he came to know about the casteist slurs he had approached the academy's management but they did not respond properly and also did not warn the students. He also called his daughter to their native and she had agreed but later the family received a call from the academy informing them that their daughter committed suicide and died by jumping from the academy building.
Police also confirmed that a suicide note was found which did not blame anyone for the death.
The deceased student was a native of Kothagudem in Telangana and she was preparing for the NEET exam at the coaching academy at Hayathnagar for the past six months and was staying in a hostel.
As per the TOI report, the deceased name was Penumala Vidya Priyanka and she was a Dalit who shared her hostel room with four other girls. All these girls were students of the coaching centre - Davao International Medical Academy.
