FAIMA National Chairman Dr Rohan Krishnan has said that the Neet PG 2023 internship eligibility cut-off for interns extended till June 30, 2023.
Reportedly the senior official sources of the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and National Medical Commission (NMC) had already hinted towards a reconsideration about the date of completion of the MBBS internship. Now, the National Chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) Dr Rohan Krishnan said that the deadline has been extended.
Dr Krishnan tweet reads, "Neet PG 23 eligibility cut off for interns extended till 30 june 2023.#neetpg2023
@MoHFW_INDIA @NMC_IND @OfficeOf_MM Thanks to all for hearing us @NBEMS_INDIA & #MCC Chairman."
Moreover, as per the report of NDTV the Union health ministry has extended the MBBS internship cut-off date to June 30, as per official sources, and official notification in this regard is expected soon.
The Background
The last date of internship completion was announced as March 31, 2023. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) and other doctors' associations had raised the issue that as per this deadline, most of the interns in several states will remain ineligible. FORDA had also written to the health ministry to postpone this date.
"This unfortunate decision has rendered a majority of current interns across the country ineligible thereby wiping out competition and leaving a multitude of others in a state of uncertainty," reads FORDA's letter.
"This is especially devastating for interns in states such as Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and many others who have been altogether disqualified under this new rule as most of the states currently have interns who will attain their completion after the aforementioned date," added the letter.
