NEET PG Counselling 2021: SC hearing on OBC, EWS quotas to continue tomorrow
Supreme Court hearing on OBC and EWS quota case related to medical undergraduate and postgraduate admission to continue tomorrow.
The hearing of the OBC and EWS reservation case in the Supreme Court is to continue tomorrow. The top court of the country heard the arguments made by Senior Advocates Arvind Datar and Shyam Divan challenging the EWS reservation and OBC reservation respectively.
NEET case was listed as item number 26 today. As per Live Law, Senior Advocate Divan argued in the court, "In many courses, postgraduate is the end of the road, and that is the super-speciality in some departments. So the principle regarding super-speciality courses will apply to postgraduate courses too. Postgraduate admissions must be completely merit-based and reservation must be minimal."
He referred to Supreme Court judgements which hold that there should be no reservation in super-speciality courses.
Supreme Court to resume the hearing tomorrow and the bench will first hear other petitioners and Solicitor General will respond after their arguments, as said by Justice Chandrachud in the court.
Until a final judgement on the case comes, NEET UG and PG Counselling 2021 for all India quota seats (AIQ) cannot be started.
The top court had scheduled the hearing for today after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on behalf of the Central government had repeatedly mentioned in the court for an early hearing on the case. The case was already scheduled for hearing on January 6. However, after a nationwide protest of resident doctors to expedite the NEET PG 2021 Counselling, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had assured the protesting doctors that he will try for an early hearing in the case.
