After two days of hearing of the EWS and OBC reservation case, Supreme Court is expected to announce the final judgement on the case today, January 7.

Supreme Court

On Thursday, Supreme Court had reserved its judgement on the plea challenging Centre's Other Backward Class (OBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation policy. The final orders will be announced today, January 7, at 10:30 AM.

The court had observed yesterday that "NEET PG counselling has to begin in national interest."

The case was scheduled for hearing on January 6. However, due to multiple requests of the Centre, the hearing started a day earlier on January 5. The court heard the arguments made by Senior Advocates Arvind Datar and Shyam Divan on behalf of the petitioners.

Divan had said in the court that the new reservation system must come into force from next year.

The ongoing case in the Supreme Court has delayed the NEET UG and PG Counselling 2021. The delay in admission to PG medical courses has adversely affected the healthcare system of the country. Fourth-year PG students have already passed and first-year students are yet to join. In such a scenario, resident doctors all across the country are overburdened and the rising Covid-19 cases can make things worse. At this time, the country needs more doctors and hence Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) is demanding an immediate start of the NEET PG counselling process.

FORDA has also said to the Supreme Court that any changes in the reservation policy now, will further delay the NEET PG Counselling.
