NExT for MBBS: AIIMS to conduct exam from next year
NExT exam will be implemented from next year, sources have confirmed. The exam will be single gateway for admission to post graduate medical courses, replacing NEET PG and FMGE exams. The exam will be held by AIIMS New Delhi. The official notification regarding dates, application will be released anytime soon.
National Exit Test or NExT exam will be held from next year. NExT exam, the single merit based final year MBBS exam will be implemented from 2024, top sources in Health Ministry have said. This has put all speculations to the rest regarding implementation of National Exit Test. The exam will be conducted most likely by All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
“The final decision is that the exit exam will be conducted in 2024. Preparations will be made accordingly,” the official was quoted as saying by HT.
Earlier on Thursday, NMC issued an official notification regarding fake letter on social platforms. The notification asked candidates not to pay heed to such rumour and check notification on official website.
"This has come to the notice of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board that a fake letter dated June 7, 2023, issued under the signature of the undersigned, is circulating in social media," said NMC in its notice. "It is brought to the attention of all concerned and stakeholders that there is no such letter dated June 7, 2023, issued by UGMEB of NMC regarding confirmation of upcoming National Exit Test," added the NMC's notice.
NMC NExT Exam
National Exit Test is envisaged a single gateway exam which will be replacing NEET PG and FMGE exams for admission to postgraduate courses. The final year MBBS students have to clear the exam to get admission into postgraduate medical courses.
The exam will be held in two steps, Step 1 and Step 2. According to an official release, Step 1 will be a theory-based exam while Step 2 will check the practical knowledge of candidates seeking admission in post-graduate medical courses. NMC NExT exam will be a single gateway to get license and practice medicine in India.
On December 28, 2022, NMC released draft guidelines related to National Exit Test, providing details about eligibility, exam pattern and marking scheme. In its draft guidelines, NMC stated that the objective of National Exit Test is to bring uniformity in the summative evaluation across the country with reference to the minimum common standards of education and training of a medical graduate.
