NMC asks medical colleges to submit reports on EWS category admissions
Governement of India introduced 10% reservation to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society through the 103rd constitutional amendment.
National Medical Commission has issued a public notice and said that the 10% reservation to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) is also applicable for medical eduation.
The commission has asked all colleges to admit the sanctioned number of students including EWS Category within the permitted seat quota. No additional seat shall be permitted by the NMC, added the notification.
NMC issued this after observing that medical institutions are admitting additional students for MBBS course under Economical Weaker Section quota over and above the sanctioned seat.
In another notice, NMC has said that medical colleges are required to ensure that all admission in the PG courses are strictly as per with the merit and are made in a transparent and fair manner as envisaged in the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000. Any violation shall lead to discharge of the concerned students from the courses and such action against the concerned medical college/institution as is permissible in law.
Admission to the Postgraduate courses (PG Diploma, MD/MS, DM, & M.Ch) has to be made in accordance with provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000. The Regulations framed by the Council have been held to be statutory, binding and mandatory in character by the Supreme Court in its various pronouncements, added NMC's statement.
The last date of admission in Post Graduate Broad Specialty course , as approved , is October 25, 2023. The portal for filling in the student details shall remain open till October 28, 2022.
