NMC Issues Deadline for Medical Colleges to Submit Details of Stipend Paid to MBBS Interns, Resident Doctors

In compliance with the Supreme Court order to submit details of the stipend paid to the MBBS interns and resident doctors, NMC has given a deadline to all medical colleges to submit a report by April 23, 2024.

NMC Latest News

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a deadline for all medical institutes to submit details of the stipend paid to the medical interns and resident doctors. The medical colleges are now required to submit the stipend details latest by April 24, 2024. These details will contain the stipend provided to undergraduate interns, postgraduate residents and senior residents as well as to PGs in Super Speciality for the financial year 2023-24. 

The medical colleges are required to submit several details including the name of the institute, address of the institute, the amount of stipend paid by the respective government along with the month-wise stipend paid to the MBBS interns for the academic year 2023-24. 

Medical College to Submit Stipend Details by April 23, 2024

“Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in the WP (Civil) No. 730/2022 & other cases vide their orders dt. September 16, 2023, and April 1, 2024, have directed NMC to submit the details of stipends paid to the Medical interns and residents and accordingly, all the Health Institutions / Medical colleges are hereby directed to submit to NMC the details of the stipend paid to their UG Interns, Post-Graduate Residents and Senior Residents or PGs in Super Specialty for the financial year 2023-24 as per Annexure 1 on E-mail ID:- stipend23- 24@nmc.org.in by April 23, 2024 positively.” The official notification reads. 

What has Happened? 

The Supreme Court of India, on September 15, 2023, received an allegation that the Army College of Medical Science was not providing stipends to any medical interns. Further, during the investigation, it was found that almost 70 percent of medical colleges were not granting equitable stipends to medical students. 

Consequently, on April 1, 2024, the Supreme Court of India directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to submit details of the amount paid to medical students within a period of four weeks. 

“Further for financial year2024-25 onwards these details should be uploaded on the website of the Medical College / Medical Institutions concerned and required to be updated on a monthly basis (by the 5th of every month thereafter) as per Annexure 2 and at the end of each financial year, the complete statement be submitted to NMC” The notification further added.
