For a better understanding of the general public on Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) Regulations, 2021, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the FAQs on CRMI Regulations, 2021.

The official notification reads, "These FAQs are in the nature of explanation for ease of understanding of the general public and cannot be upheld in a court of law. Please refer to the relevant gazette notifications for legal validity."

Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship Regulations 2021 FAQs

The FAQs contain general questions on the CRMI, including when the regulations came into force, to whom it applies, is it mandatory to do CRMI, where can internships be done, the prescribed duration of the internship and other such questions.

As per the FAQs answers given by NMC, CRMI Regulations 2021 are applicable to all medical graduates who begin their internship on/after the date of publication in the Official Gazette of India, which is November 18, 2021, and wish to obtain permanent registration to practice medicine in India.

The prescribed duration of the internship is 12 months, to the satisfaction of the college authorities and the university concerned after passing the final Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) examination/National Exit Exam for MBBS (Next), so as to be eligible for the award of the MBBS degree by the respective universities.

The NMC's statement says, "All interns shall be paid stipend as fixed by the appropriate authority applicable to the institution/university or state. The total stipend paid for the entire internship may be for fifty-two weeks (Twelve months) only."
