NMC’s viral letter regarding police action against ghost faculty is FAKE

An NMC letter was circulating on social media that the National Medical Commission has initiated a police action against a ghost faculty at Sindhudurg based medical college. The letter has reportedly become viral on the social media platform.

Now, media reports are suggesting that the Commission has claimed that the letter was FAKE as confirmed by the NMC officials.

The fake letter is dated February 3, 2024, and it is issued in the name of Director of UGMEB - Undergraduate Medical Education Board of NMC, Dr Shambhu Sharan Kumar.

The letter reads, “Your case is being handed over to police and income tax authorities to investigate and reprot genuineness of allegations against you”.

The letter is fake but the commission is trying its best to control the ghost faculty in medical colleges.

In January, the Commission released Minimum Standard Requirement for Post Graduate Courses, 2023-(PGMSR, 2023). On which Aujender Singh, Deputy Secretary, NMC said to Economic Times, “The recent norms have been introduced to improve the quality of medical education. It has come to NMC’s notice that several colleges lack infrastructure and logistics required for post graduate medical education. NMC will take action against those medical collegs found not fulfilling the necessary criteria. The PGMEB will assess the medical colleges at regular intervals. The NMC has introduced a monetary penalty of Rs 1 crore, for medical colleges that fail to adhere to norms and standards set by the Commission."
