NMC has several times warned medical institutes to be alert against any fake letters issued to them.

The Post Graduate Education Medical Board of the National Medical Commission has noticed that many medical colleges have claimed to have received fake/forged letters of recognition from NMC. The Commission has warned the medical colleges against any such fraud and advised them not to fall into the trap of any such fake letters.

"It has come to the notice of Post Graduate Education Medical Board, National Medical Commission that fake/forged letter(s) of recognition under forged signature of Dr Vijay Oza President of PGMEB have been claimed to be received by few medical colleges," reads NMC's notification.

"It is hereby informed that all the letters of Recognition/Renewal of Recognition are sent through a dedicated email i.e. pgmeb.recognition@nmc.org.in in addition to dispatch of the letter(s) through speed post. All the stakeholders including medical colleges are hereby advised to not to fall in trap of any such fake letter (S) of Recognition/Renewal of Recognition if the same is not received through dedicated email from PGMEB, NMC as well as by Post from NMC," added the notification.

On September 20, 2023, NMC also notified that a fake letter was issued to GR Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Karnataka towards renewal of permission for MBBS course for second batch for the AY 2022-23. Earlier in September, NMC warned against the fake letters issued to Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences, Vizianagaram for the increase of seats in MS Orthopaedicas from 8 to 16, MS-ENT from 2 to 6, MD General Medicine from 15 to 26, MS-OBG from 10 to 16, MD Respiratory Medicine from 02 to 05 MS Opthalmology from 3 to 6, MD - DVL from 5 to 10, MS- General Surgery from 10 to 26 and MD Paediatrics from 8 to 16 for the academic year 2023-24.

In many similar cases, NMC always informed the medical colleges to be alert of any such fake letters.
