Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has issued a notification and said that all residents can now choose their own guides as per their area of interest and availability of guides in reference to extant guidelines and the heads of the teaching departments are also directed to comply the same.
PGIMER's official notification reads, "It has been brought to the notice that the guidelines mentioned in the Office Memo No A. 31011/2Trg/93/18454-98 dated 31.03.1993, regarding selection of guide for writing thesis by resident doctors, are not being compiled in its true letter and spirit. All the heads of the teaching departements are, therefore, requested to comply the same."

"Thanks to @dpgi_chandigarh now our residents have the freedom to choose thesis guides. Specially vital to the residents who wish to join DM/MCH course in future. They can choose guide accordingly. Aim is to reduce stress related to thesis work in Residency," tweeted the residents' association.
Recently, the association has installed 20 bunk beds for residents in various doctors' duty rooms (DDRs) within the premises of PGIMER.
