Postpone NEET PG 2023 by 2-3 months: IMA urges Health Ministry

NEET PG 2023: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya urging that the Nationa Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) should be postponed by two to three months. It must be noted that as of now NEET PG 2023 is scheduled to be conducted on March 5, 2023.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) announced the NEET PG exam date to be March 5, 2023. While speaking on the same, the association said that the candidates who are doing their mandatory internship are not provided sufficient time for preparation.

IMA further added that "many aspiring MBBS students yet have to complete their internship as per their local internship schedules and these all students will miss their opportunity to seek postgraduate education as the NBE NEET PG 23 date do not synchronize with the dates of completion of internships at various parts of the country."

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry on February 7 extended the cut-off date for mandatory internship from June 30 to August 11, 2023.

โ€œAs requested by IMA Headquarters the issue of eligibility criteria for NEET PG 2023 was resolved by extending the date of completion of an internship. But this also needs to synchronize with the actual examination date, which shall be convened after completion of the internship,โ€ IMA added.

โ€œWhile we are entrusted with the task to bring uniformity and standardization in postgraduate examinations conducted in India, we must safeguard these basic objectives while framing the schedule for NEET PG," IMA said.

The IMA further added that the wellbeing and welfare of students should be the primary and only focus.
