Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Defends NTA Amid Controversy Over NEET UG 2024 Exam, UGC-NET Mismanagement

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan declared the government's commitment to ending the pervasive coaching culture in India. Emphasizing the need for high-quality education, Pradhan stated that the National Testing Agency (NTA) and other government instruments are fully accountable and transparent, aiming to eliminate the dependency on coaching centers through significant improvements in the education system.

Addressing the Parliament today, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan defended the National Testing Agency (NTA) amid recent controversies surrounding the mismanagement of major exams such as NEET UG 2024 Exam and UGC NET.

"Be it NTA or any instrument of the government, it is accountable in every way, inside and outside the Parliament, up to the level of CAG audit. Our government has nothing to hide," Pradhan stated, emphasizing the government's commitment to transparency and accountability. "We do not belong to those friends who doubt and raise questions even on the CAG report."

Pradhan highlighted NTA's extensive track record, noting that the agency has conducted over 250 examinations in the last six years, serving more than 50 million candidates with efficiency and transparency. He underscored the importance of high-quality education to eliminate the reliance on coaching centers.

"The quality of our education should be such that there is no need for coaching centres. Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya are examples of quality education," Pradhan said. "We have to bring our students out of the world of coaching centres, it should be done legally and by bringing social change."

Pradhan also noted significant advancements in medical education, stating that the number of MBBS seats in the country has more than doubled from 51,000 in 2014 to 110,000 today. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to opening a medical college in every district across India.

Despite the recent challenges faced by NTA, Pradhan's address aimed to reassure the Parliament and the public of the government's dedication to improving the education system and maintaining rigorous standards of transparency and accountability.
