Six students of government medical college in Suryapet, Telangana, got suspended for one year and permanently removed from hostel due to their alleged involvement in ragging.

The director of government medical college in Suryapet, Telangana, has suspended six second-year MBBS students for one year and removed them from the hostel permanently due to their alleged involvement in ragging. As per reports, these students are of the 2019-2020 batch and the victim is a first-year student, a native of Hyderabad.

The ragging incident reportedly took place on the night of January 1, when a group of senior students came to the victim's room, ordered him to take off his clothes and took video shots of him on their mobile phones. The victim was physically and mentally tortured for almost two hours, the seniors also tried to cut his hair. Based on the victim's complaint, five of these students were booked and arrested on Monday under Anti-Ragging Act. More seniors can get arrested as the victim has stated in his complaint that there were 25-30 seniors involved.

It was found during the police investigation that the college had not formed an anti-ragging committee as directed by the latest National Medical Council (NMC) guidelines.

The college principal CV Sharada told TOI, "We conducted a thorough enquiry and submitted a report to the higher authorities on our findings. A committee constituted in the college questioned all the students and have come to the conclusion that six students were involved in the incident."
