RG Kar Issue: Nationwide Boycott of Elective Service Today as Condition of WB Protesting Medicos Deteriorate

The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) will initiate the nationwide boycott of elective services by resident doctors on October 15, 2024, in solidarity with the WBJDF.

RG Kar Doctor Protest: The fast-unto-death by junior medicos in West Bengal will be joined by RDAs across India in support of their directives on the rape and murder of their colleagues in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) of AIIMS New Delhi, wrote an 'urgent' letter to the President of India, seeking immediate action on the demands asked in the doctor strike. Reportedly, a junior doctor from NRS Medical College and Hospital, who was a part of the doctor strike has been hospitalised due to deteriorating health. 

Doctor Strike Latest News 

As per the latest turn of events, the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) will initiate the nationwide boycott of elective services by resident doctors on October 15, 2024, in solidarity with the WBJDF. The association has written a formal letter to the Chief Minister of West Bengal in response to the status report and an urgent call for immediate action on WBJDF demands. 

"Festivities and carnivals can wait. We request you not to play with the lives of young doctors in your state. The entire state of West Bengal has been watching your inaction and FAIMA is committed to saving the lives of our resident doctors on hunger strike and the ICUs due to your insensitivity. Because of this arrogant and insensitive attitude of the state government, we are now pushed to the walls and are forced to initiate our nationwide call for the boycott of elective services by resident doctors on October 15, 2024, in solidarity with the WBJDF." The official letter reads.

Doctors Protest In West Bengal

The Junior Residents of West Bengal are on hunger strike seeking justice for RG Kar hospital doctor who was brutally raped and murdered. Protesting junior doctors has received support from several associations such as FAIMA and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) who urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to intercede before the condition escalates. The doctors on strike other demands include inducting a centralised referral system for all hospitals and medical colleges, forming task forces to ensure essential provisions for CCTV, and implementing a bed vacancy monitoring system and washrooms at their workplaces.
