Supreme Court of India has asked the Centre and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of their responses on the plea seeking defined criteria for seat matrix of INI CET.

While hearing a plea filed by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal's Students Association and others, the top court has asked the Centre and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of their response on the plea.

The plea by these students sought the defined criteria for arriving at the seat matrix for the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI CET).

The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao issued notice to AIIMS, Ministry of Health, and others on this matter. It also said, “Issue notice returnable on January 10, 2022.”

The petitioners argued in the court that only Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) Puducherry provides for roster system for seat allocation to two sources of admissions including college preference candidates and others along with the related quota. Other than this, no other INIs including AIIMS provide any details on how their seats are allocated.

INI CET 2022 was held on November 14 by AIIMS for admission to various postgraduate medical courses at JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences) Bengaluru, PGIMER (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) Chandigarh, SCTIMST (Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology) Trivandrum and eight AIIMS.
