Supreme Court likely to hear plea on NEET PG 2022 postponement tomorrow, Feb 4
NEET PG 2022: The Supreme Court of India is likely to hear the plea seeking direction to NBE to defer the NEET PG 2022 tomorrow, on February 4.
Six MBBS graduates have filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking direction to the National Board of Examination (NBE) for postponing the NEET PG 2022 which is scheduled to be conducted on March 12. The Supreme Court is likely to hear the plea tomorrow, February 4.
The plea was filed on January 25 and earlier was expected for hearing on February 7, as per the court's website but now the case can be listed for hearing on Friday, February 4.
The petitioners want the examination to be postponed until various requirements for examination are met such as set forth in the PG Regulations, and completion of the mandatory internship period. They have also sought an extension to the last date of completion of the internship from May 31.
One of the NEET PG regulations says that 30 beds of a hospital have to be assigned to one unit of students pursuing the PG course and now two students of two academic sessions will have to be accommodated in the same facility.
The petition has raised a challenge to the NEET PG Regulations 2000 violation while admitting candidates for academic sessions in one session as there is an "explicit cap on the number of PG admissions to be done per year per unit", said a lawyer of Dubey Law Chambers through which the petitioners have filed the plea.
As per the petitioners, many MBBS graduates internships got halted due to their duty in handling the Covid-19 pandemic and now they all will become in-eligible for the NEET PG 2022 as they do not have the mandatory internship.
"The petitioners (with 1500 candidates) have mentioned that they were in Covid duties in the year 2021 and therefore their internship was postponed. They have submitted that they are victims of circumstances and that they were not informed at any time that serving in Covid duties would tantamount to a situation where they will not be eligible to appear for the NEET-PG," the lawyer said.
