The next hearing of NEET UG 2024 is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on July 22, 2024.

The Supreme Court of India has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the results of the NEET UG 2024 examination on its website by noon on July 20, 2024. This order comes amidst ongoing hearings concerning allegations of a paper leak in the exam.

During the hearing, senior counsel Narender Hooda, representing the petitioners, argued for transparency in the results, suggesting that the NTA should publish centerwise marks obtained by candidates. The Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, and senior counsel Naresh Kaushik, representing the Union of India and the NTA respectively, also participated in the discussions.

In its order, the Supreme Court specified that the NTA must disclose the marks obtained by students without revealing their identities. The results are to be declared city and centerwise.

The Court also directed that the material collected by the Bihar Police, including the investigation report from the Economic Offences Wing, be submitted to the Court by 5:00 p.m. on July 20, 2024. The next hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on July 22, 2024.

Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud emphasized the need for a detailed examination of the Bihar Police report, stating, β€œWe will continue on Monday at 10:30 AM, so that we can conclude by noon. We would like to have a copy of the Bihar police report.”

The Supreme Court's decision will affect approximately 24 lakh students who appeared for the NEET UG 2024 exam. The petitions, over 40 in number, include calls for the cancellation of the exam, a re-test, and an investigation into the alleged irregularities. The bench, comprising Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated that any decision regarding a re-examination must be based on concrete evidence of widespread compromise.

Chief Justice Chandrachud remarked on the distribution of top candidates across states, noting, β€œI have done an analysis from the top 100. AP got 7, Bihar got 7, Haryana 4, Delhi 6, Maharashtra 4, Tamil Nadu 6... etc. So it shows top 100 is distributed across 12 states and one UT. The proof of the pudding is in the eating so we need to see how many from 1563 who took re-test appear in the top 100... NTA will tell us that.”

The Court's ruling aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the examination process while addressing the concerns raised by the petitioners regarding the integrity of the NEET UG 2024 exam.
