The Supreme Court hearing on the matter to accommodate Ukraine returned Indian medical students to the Indian medical education system is scheduled for today.

Supreme Court to hear Ukraine returned medicos' pleas today

The last hearing on Ukraine's returned Indian medical students was on November 29 in the Supreme Court and today the apex court can hear the matter again. Thousands of affected students are waiting for the court's judgement in this case as they are not getting any help from the Centre.

Many of them were only attending online classes offered by their respective universities, however, due to the recent power blackout in the war-torn country Ukraine, even the online classes got affected.

During the last hearing on November 29, the Centre told the court that as many as 14,973 medicos are undergoing online classes conducted by concerned medical varsities. Also, the possibility of providing clinical accommodations to the students of the fourth, fifth and sixth-year batches as a "one-time measure" was discussed.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati has already said in the court that accommodating these students is not possible as National Medical Commission (NMC) has no policy for that and also it would affect the Indian medical education standard which is higher than that of the education offered in a country like Ukraine.

On internship, she said that she did not have information on the internship issue and she would come back after taking instructions. The bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and Vikram Nath granted this and scheduled the next hearing for today, December 8, 2022.
