Telangana govt to set up 33 medical colleges, says Harish Rao
Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao has said that the state government has decided to set up 33 medical colleges across the state.
On Monday, Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao had said that the government has decided to establish 33 medical colleges across the state against the three medical colleges that were set up during the last 60 years.
He said during a question hour session in the Assembly that after the formation of the Telangana state, 12 medical colleges were sanctioned at different places. Out of these, four colleges at Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Siddipet, and Suryapet were already functioning.
Admission to 8 medical colleges to start from 2022-23 academic year
He added that the National Medical Council application formalities were completed and infrastructure works were under progress for eight other medical colleges and admission to these colleges would start from 2022-23 academic year.
Moreover, the state government has decided to set up eight more colleges and up-gradation of attached hospitals at Asifabad, Bhupalpally, Vikarabad, Sircilla, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Karimnagar and Khammam, he said, as reported by Telangana Today.
"Every year, around 2,000 MBBS seats were being added in Telangana. During 2014, there were 700 seats in the State and they have now been increased to 2,850 seats, there were 934 PG medical seats (including NIMS)," said the minister.
"27,000 beds were upgraded to oxygen beds and 26 liquid oxygen tanks were set up at 26 hospitals across the State. At NIMS hospital, there were 200 ICU beds and 100 more beds were ready for inauguration. In addition to these, 100 more beds would be ready by next month," he said.
