Telangana: NMC derecognises Mediciti Medical College

The Medical Council of India has cancelled the recognition of Mediciti medical college belonging to former union Minister Sujana Chowdary and issued orders stopping admissions to the college for the academic year 2023-24.

The college was set up in the name of Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences at Ghanpur of Medchal Malkajigiri district on the outskirts of Hyderabad in 2002 on a 40-acre site and every year 100 medical admissions were made since 2012-13.

From 2017, the number of seats increased to 150. The MCI during its routine inspections found irregularities in the institute. At present, there are 750 MBBS students and 150 PG students studying there.

On the grounds of the government Hospital Sangareddy, the construction work of the college building was already complete at a cost INR 30 crore. So far, 54 doctors and 43 senior residents have been recruited. To begin lessons this academic year, the Vaidya Vidhana Parishad has also finished the mandatory recruitments at all levels. The second phase will soon begin with the hostel construction.

In Orissa also, recently, NMC has flagged serious deficiencies in the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, as many posts are lying vacant in various departments. NMC has issued a show cause notice to de-recognise DM and MCh seats in nephrology and urology departments respectively as professor posts are lying vacant.
