UGC issues notification regarding recognition of BSRMS
UGC India has issued a notification regarding recognition of BSRMS and notified that 10+2 is mandatory for pursuing this course.
Bachelor of Sowa-Rigpa Medicine and Surgery program (BSRMS) is a minimum 5 years program. It is mostly practised in Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, China and Himalayan regions of India and also in some parts of the former Soviet Union.
Prasar Bharati News Services has tweeted today that the UGC (University Grants Commission) India has issued a notification regarding the recognition of BSRMS and also notified that 10+2 is the mandatory eligibility criteria for pursuing this course.

Sowa Rigpa means the science of healing. It is commonly known as the Amchi system of medicine. In India, this system has been practised in Darjeeling (West Bengal), Arunachal Pradesh, Lahoul & Spiti (Himachal Pradesh) and the Ladakh region of Jammu& Kashmir.
The colleges in India that provide the related courses are:
- Chockpori Medical Institute Darjeeling (W.B)
- Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh (under Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India)
- Central University for Tibetan Studies, Saranath UP (under Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India)
- Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute, Dharamsala HP of his Holiness Dalai Lama
This system of medicine has been recognized by the Government of India vide Gazette notification and added to the Indian Medicine Central Council Act (IMCC), 1970 with effect from 1st January 2012.
Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine is regulated by the Central Council of Indian Medicine.
