UP Deputy CM urges timely completion of 14 medical colleges

BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh is on a spree of opening new medical colleges in the state and improving the medical education and health infrastructure.

As per reports, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak directed officials of medical education and health departments to ensure the timely completion of 14 upcoming medical colleges so that the academic session can be started on time.

"This will ensure commencement of the academic session in the upcoming term from the phase 3 of the 14 medical colleges," he said, as reported by TOI.

During a review meeting, he emphasized that the construction of these medical institutes should meet high-quality standards and adhere to the specified timeframe.

Apart from these 14 medical colleges, he also instructed the officials to expedite the construction of nursing colleges and said that the nursing colleges should be located in proximity to medical colleges.

In the last few years, the state witnessed a significant increase in the number of medical seats. In 2017, the state had only 1840 MBBS seats which now increased to 3828 seats. In private medical colleges, the MBBS seats increased from 2550 to 4150, an increase of 1600 seats. PG seats were 741 in 2017 and now it increased to 1027. The state government intends to establish one medical college in every district of the state by 2027.

For colleges to be started in Bagpat, Hathras, Mainpuri, Kasganj, Hamirpur and Mahoba, the tender was floated on August 23. These colleges are being started as part of the state government’s policy focused on developing medical facilities in aspirational districts.
