WB: Malda Medical College likely to get three new PG courses

Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in West Bengal is likely to get three new postgraduate medical courses from the current academic year.

Puranjay Saha, the Vice-principal of Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) has said that a team from National Medical Commission (NMC) had recently visited the college in response to the MMCH request for approval of the new postgraduate courses in the institute.

These courses are expected to be introduced in three departments of the MMCH from the current academic year. These departments are gynaecology, microbiology, and ENT, as reported by Telegraph India.

There will be five seats each for postgraduate courses in gynaecology, and microbiology and three seats in ENT.

NMC team expressed satisfaction with the MMCH infrastructure

“The team expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure and have hinted that they would issue the approval soon. Once we get their nod, we will start PG courses in gynaecology, microbiology and ENT,” said the Vice President.

“Right now, around 31 per cent of the total vacancies of teaching doctors are lying vacant at the MMCH as some of them have been transferred to other medical colleges. We think those would be filled up in due course and hope to get the approval of some additional teaching posts once these three PG courses commence in our institution,” said a faculty member.

For now, the medical college offers 125 MBBS seats and five PG seats in paediatrics and after the new courses will commence, the institute will have a total of 18 PG seats, said the VC.
