West Bengal to get 6 new medical colleges

The government of West Bengal has decided to establish six new medical colleges in the state in coordination with the central government. These colleges are to be made under the Central sponsored scheme of "Establishment of new medical colleges attached with Districts or Referal Hospitals."

The new medical colleges in West Bengal will be established by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Each of these medical colleges will take 100 MBBS students and will help in filling 1,464 posts.

These institutes will be established in Jalpaiguri, Aarambagh, Jhargram, Uluneria, and Barasat. These will be built in the districts of Purba Medinipur, Hoogly, North 24 Paragana, and Howrah.

The new medical colleges in the state will contribute significantly to the development of the medical sector in West Bengal. The government also said that an approval letter is required for establishing these medical institutes from the National Medical Commission. Various posts such as RMOs, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor Posts and others will be added to the colleges as per the norms of the National Medical Commission.

• Jhargarm Govemment Medical College & Hospital, Jhargarm
• Tamralipto Govemment Medical College & Hospital, Tamluk
• Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital, Barasat
• Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical, Uluberia
• Jalpaiguri Government Medical College & Hospital, Jalpaiguri
